Woke up with a painful bump on your eyelid? Chances are, it's a stye. But don't panic! A stye, while annoying, is usually harmless and treatable at home with some simple self-care.
The key is warm compresses. Soak a clean washcloth in warm water (not too hot!) and gently apply it to your closed eyelid for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times a day. This helps to open the blocked oil gland causing the stye and encourages drainage. Avoid squeezing or popping the stye, as this can spread the infection.
Keep your hands clean and avoid touching your eyes. You can also use a mild, diluted baby shampoo to gently cleanse your eyelids. Skip the makeup and contact lenses until the stye clears up.
While most styes resolve on their own within a week or two, consult a doctor if the pain is severe, your vision is affected, or the redness spreads. With consistent stye self-care, you'll be batting those beautiful eyes again in no time!
