Spin City? Decoding Sudden Dizziness While Sitting

That sudden wave of dizziness when you're just sitting down can be unsettling. You're not moving, so what gives? While it's always best to consult a doctor, let's explore some potential causes.

One culprit could be **orthostatic hypotension**, a sudden drop in blood pressure. Even when sitting, if you rise too quickly, gravity can pull blood down, leading to temporary dizziness. Dehydration, certain medications, and underlying heart conditions can contribute.

Another possibility is **benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)**. Though more common with head movements, sometimes shifting position even slightly while seated can trigger it. BPPV involves tiny crystals in your inner ear becoming dislodged.

**Other factors** to consider include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), anxiety or panic attacks, and even iron deficiency. If the dizziness is frequent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms like blurred vision, headache, or chest pain, seek medical attention immediately. A doctor can properly diagnose the cause and recommend the appropriate treatment.
