Ghostly Grace: Unveiling the Mystique of White Peacocks

The white peacock, a vision of ethereal beauty, isn't an albino! It's actually a color variation of the Indian Blue Peafowl (Pavo cristatus). Their stunning white plumage results from a genetic mutation called leucism, which causes a lack of pigment in their feathers, but *not* in their eyes (unlike albinism).

While often mistaken for royalty, white peacocks are as vulnerable to predators as their colorful cousins. Their bright feathers, while captivating to us, don't offer the same camouflage in the wild.

Interestingly, white peahens also exist, mirroring the male's leucistic trait. Whether strutting through gardens or gracing wildlife sanctuaries, these magnificent birds continue to inspire awe and wonder, showcasing nature's capacity for breathtaking variations.
